Ring Crew Commentaries: Slut Shaming

I first want to bring your attention to an article saying many of the same things I’m about to say.  It was written by Brandon of Uproxx called, “The Best And Worst of WWE Raw 2/20/12: About That Whole ‘Eve is a Slut’ Thing… and it can be found here.

I’m having a real hard time comprehending Raw last Monday.  That opening segment was one of those things that makes me embarrassed to be a pro wrestling fan.  I’ve seen worse.  I watched the WCW 2000 era.  I’ve also watched the WWF during the Attitude Era.  Hell, I remember how every heel female manager in ECW had to be a total whore.  Francine telling Justin Credible he wouldn’t get any “nookie” if he didn’t win the ECW Championship.  Yeah, I just reminded you of a Limp Bizkit song.  I swear, this article gets worse.  I remember all of these things, but I remember them during the TV-14 era when I was a 14 year old.  I’m almost 27 and watched a TV-PG show do the same material that used to happen 13 years ago, only it wasn’t a heel forcing a woman to do slutty things to keep her job like what Vince McMahon did to Trish Stratus.  This is “Be a Star/Rise Above Hate” John Cena, who apologized only months ago on his Twitter for comments against homosexuals and promised to no longer do that sort of thing slut shaming another part of “Be a Star” Eve.

Ring Crew Commentaries: Hulk Hogan. No job title. No good booking opinions. Dream rapist.

Genesis - How It Should Have Happened

I've taken some time to think about the lackluster pay-per-view known as Genesis and organize some of my thoughts on why it didn't work for me and what I would have done to make it more entertaining.

Just so there isn't confusion I have left out the Angle/Storm  and Gunner/Van Dam matches because I have no idea why they exist and therefore have no idea how to improve them.

Austin Aries vs Kid Kash vs Jesse Sorensen vs Zema Ion

How it Happened: The match begins with very little pop for either of the four  wrestlers. Magnus leaves the ring and everybody starts practicing their rollups. Some decent moves are pulled off my Ares and Sorenson but nobody really seems impressed. Kid Kash is eliminated first, then Zima, then Sorenson and Aries wins.

The Problem: The X-Division title is a pretty worthless belt at this point and it feels that even the wrestlers fighting for it don't even care. Kurt Angle seems to be right, the division has gone downhill in the past few years and their matches at the pay-per-views are almost always low points. The wrestling in the match was alright, but there felt like there was nothing at stake, nobody really cared about the title, and they're only having an X-Division match because it's on their check list.

The D-Roc Blog: Jericho walks the line between worked and shoot heat

One week ago Chris Jericho made a not-so surprising return on Raw .What was surprising was the way he made his return.  Jericho, a man known for his excellent skills on the microphone as well as in the ring, didn't say much.  Besides a few crowd hyping phrases, Jericho didn't talk on the microphone.

It was pure genius.

If you don’t understand why it was genius then chances are you hated the segment.  It's okay because not everyone was supposed to get it.


Allow me to explain the art of the segment. Unlike most things in wrestling these days, it was different.  I don't mean different like we haven't seen this in five or ten years but different because we have NEVER seen this.

TNA Genesis report

Robert Roode is still TNA Champion after he disqualified himself during his bout with Jeff Hardy.
Roode intentionally kicked the referee below the belt. Just as Hardy was about to put an end to Roode's reign, the ref called for the bell.
Brutality was the real monster in the Monster's Ball match. Tables, canes, chairs and barbed wired boards were all present during the merciless melee. An old friend even reared it's ugly pinhead as Janice, the bat with nails, was brought into the battle by Abyss. However It was the barbed wired board that determined the outcome when Abyss gave Bully Ray the Blackhoke Slam on the apparatus of apathy.
Velvet Sky campaigned to Sting to become the new Knockout V.P. now that Karen Jarrett is put of the picture. Sky suggested she has an idea for the Knockout match that has the velvet touch. As it turns out it involves Madison Rayne suspended in a cage hung above the ring.

Even though she was in the cage, Madison Rayne still played an integral part in the outcome as she tossed a pair of brass knucks to Gail Kim while the ref's attention was diverted. Before Kim could use the knucks, Mickie James was able to recover and use them. However the ref saw this and awarded the match to Kim.
D'Angelo Dinero came to the realization that blood is indeed thicker than water when Terrance and Terrell showed remorse for their downed father, Devon. Dinero attacked the boys thus angering Devon. After a comeback Devon picked up the victory which hopefully brings an end to this feud.
Rob Van Damn was stretchered out of the Impact Zone (and perhaps the company) after Gunner gave RVD a piledriver on the concert floor.

Other results:

*Matt Morgan & Crimson successfully defended the TNA Tag Team titles against the mismatch team of Samoa Joe and Magnus.

* Kurt Angle low-blowed James Storm to steal the win.

* Austin Aries defeated Jesse Sorensen, Kid Kash and Zema Ion to retain the X-Division title.

Ring Crew Commentaries: Rise Above Ignorance

About a month ago, I made a comment on my Facebook about rumours of Undertaker vs. Triple III at Wrestlemania 28.  As a long-time Undertaker fan (he’s the reason I became a wrestling fan) and long-time Triple H cynic (since 2001.  I recall around 2000 trying to make excuses for his physique and saying maybe he didn’t use steroids), it’s pretty clear why I wouldn’t want to see this match again.  There’s no real purpose.  Especially since the WWE has had such trouble getting new stars over into the public eye and one program against the Undertaker in the twilight of his career would raise their image.  A complaint like this should be pretty common.

I soon received a reply from former Ring Crew Show member Potter who commented, “For a guy that claims to love wrestling you sure do hate it.”  I’ll get to this comment in a moment.  I soon pointed out all of the ways I support pro wrestling, which should have been obvious, before being told by Potter that if I don’t like the WWE, I should ignore it.  He then complained about me ranting about it all of the time on Facebook and I would be much happier if I was like him and just watched the best of Ricky Steamboat and Curt Hennig DVDs by WWE.  I responded that I knew how to solve his issue and un-friended from Facebook.
